… but it looks like the units need to be operational by mid-August of this year. Tight window! Are you up for the challenge?
That was what I said to you and JL Architects back in February of this year when Au Bon Pain selected JL Architects to deliver our three projects on the main campus of Pennsylvania State University. We were behind the Eight Ball. At the time of our kick off meeting with you and the Penn State people, we were already behind due to coordination and real estate issues. Plus, we had never worked on The Penn State Main campus before, so we didn’t know what to expect. The schedule was near impossible, with a seven week construction timetable to coincide with the academic year. I told you that I wished your first project with Au Bon Pain could have been a simple, routine store construction, but Penn State was first up and was most critical for the university and our company.
I’m very pleased to report that JL Architects met our challenge! In fact, you exceeded our expectations in every way. JL Architects and Colleen Brogan were a big part of our not getting killed out there. Colleen got it; she recognized immediately that time was of the essence, that there could not be any delays in getting her the information she needed to do her job. She worked hard to get the work right and it showed. The documentation was accurate and high quality. She coordinated closely with the Penn State team. And she kept our director of construction informed and in the loop, making him her champion. In short, she was proactive throughout the project and a pleasure to work with throughout.
I had zero complaints from construction; the same for operations and the store opening team. This is unheard of in our company. I credit this to Colleen and the standards set by you, John, for JL Architects.
These three Au Bon Pain locations went on line on time, immediately serving the needs of the students and staff at Penn State. Business has far and away exceeded our expectations. Plus the success of our Penn State project team gives Au Bon Pain greater credibility as we approach other colleges and universities to make us a part of their campus.
Au Bon Pain has very ambitious expansion plans, and I am pleased to have JL Architects as part of our team. Thank you for all your hard work and strong efforts, you should be very proud of your team.
