Born and raised in southern California, I knew from the time I was in middle school and took my first drafting class, that I wanted to be an architect. After completing my education at University of Southern California, I started my career with the Los Angeles firms of Skidmore Owings and Merrill, and Edward H Fickett, FAIA. After passing my licensing exams, and receiving my second degree from USC, I moved east to marry, work, and settle in Washington DC, advancing to the title of Associate with Robinson-Willis, PC. Heeding the desire to live closer to family, and the opportunity to live in the beautiful Chester County area, Lisa and I moved to West Chester, PA in 1988, and together started JL Architects. I am proud that JL Architects has been a part of so many success stories, not the least being the professional and personal growth of those who have shaped and been a part of JL Architects success.
My career has included a wide range of project types including educational buildings, restaurants, office buildings, custom residences, retail stores, hotels, warehouses and industrial buildings. Just as varied have been the construction methods, the ever-changing technologies, the construction materials, and products. Every day brings another opportunity to collaborate, learn, teach and question “why” and “what if”. I enjoy learning new methods and applying both my past learning as well as accumulating new knowledge in each project we work on.
I currently hold a license to practice architecture in 37 states, am a NCARB certificate holder, a LEED AP, and a Green Globes accredited Professional.
Lisa & I have been blessed with 4 children, each of whom I love and admire most. I feel particularly fortunate to live in a home of my own design and work in an office building of my own design. Acting as owner/architect/developer of our office building provided the opportunity to learn about development on another level. I use that experience along with the rest of my life’s experiences to bring balance of understanding to each client, and each project.
