This year, JL Architects ventured to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA for our annual holiday event. For anyone unfamiliar with the location, Longwood Gardens was once home to the du Pont family. The Longwood that exists today was largely conceived by Pierre du Pont, the late 19th/early 20thcentury entrepreneur and philanthropist. Within its 1,077 acres, Longwood holds 20 indoor and 20 outdoor gardens.
Our afternoon commenced in the 1906 Fine Dining Room. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious, with the Candy Cane Martini receiving high marks for flashiness and pizzazz. After our meal we headed outside to take in the sights, strolling through the decorated conservatory and acres of lighted flora and fountains.
Among the attractions this season are over half a million lights, decorated tree houses, a light installation by artist Bruce Munro, and an abundance of poinsettias and ornamented Christmas trees. Also, musical performances by local choirs and even an organist accompany the sights of Longwood to complete the festive atmosphere.
A Longwood Christmas continues through January 6th, 2013. Tickets and more information can be found on their website (longwoodgardens.org). If you get the chance to go, it would make a great addition to your holiday experience!
